TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR RADON SYSTEM

Common Radon Mitigation System Issues

Loud Radon Fan

All radon fans have a running motor and will create a minimal noise. If the noise has become louder over time or is creating a crunching noise, it may be a sign that your radon fan needs to be replaced. All radon fans come standard with a 5-year manufacturer warranty. We offer fan replacements to all systems regardless of the original service provider. We stock a variety of fans to accommodate different size homes and soil types to ensure your fan replacement is right for your home.

Radon Fan Is Not Working

Check the electrical circuit that powers your radon system to ensure that the circuit did not trip. If the fan is installed in the attic, check to make sure that it did not come unplugged. If the fan is installed on the exterior, check the electric box next to the fan and ensure that the switch is in the “on” position. Check that the plastic tubing on the U-tube did not come out. If so, put the plastic tubing back into the manometer or have new tubing installed if it has been removed. If the fan is still not operating, call for service.

U-Tube Manometer Reading Zero During Cold Weather

During cold weather, ice can build up at the exhaust point on the vent pipe. When this happens, the U-Tube manometer will read zero. Rest assure that the system has been continually pulling gas reducing your radon levelsand iscontinuing to create a minimal suction. Once the weather reaches at least 20 degrees consistently the issue will resolve on its own. There is currently no industry standard to eliminate this from happening. If your vent pipe is made from aluminum instead of PVC, consider replacing the vent pipe with PVC because it is more resistant to cold weather. If the weather has warmed and the U-tube is continuing to read zero, call for service.

Gurgling Noise from Radon Pipe

Check your sump pump to ensure it is working correctly. Gurgling will typically come from the sump when water levels are too high. If your sump pump is out, we also offer sump pump and battery back-up systems
