RADON MITIGATION

WHAT IS RADON MITIGATION?

Radon Mitigation is the process of removing radon from the indoors. Passive mitigation techniques include sealing cracks, joints, and sump lids. The most effective way to remove indoor radon is to install an Active Radon Mitigation System. It is called an active system because the radon fan is continuously pulling radon gas from under the home and venting it back to the outside.
An active radon mitigation system should include 4 basic elements:

  1. A vent pipe beginning from the sub-slab of the home (called the suction point) routing to above the eave of the roofline
  2. An electric radon fan
  3. Proper sealing of exposed cracks, joints, and sump lids
  4. A system failure warning device

MULTIPLE SUCTION POINTS

Multiple suction points may be needed if the home has more than one foundation. A common example of this is when a home has a basement and a crawlspace. Other examples of when multiple suction points are needed are additions, large basements, and extremely high radon levels.

            Dirt or Gravel Crawlspaces

If a crawlspace does not have a concrete slab, it is allowing radon gas to freely flow into the home. In this situation, a vapor barrier will be installed to create an air-tight seal and stop the flow of radon into the home.

WHAT IS THE COST OF HAVING A MITIGATION SYSTEM INSTALLED?

The cost to install a radon mitigation system can vary and is determined by multiple factors some of which can include foundation type, the amount of foundations, soil type, age of the home, and radon levels. The best way to determine the cost of the radon system is to contact a licensed radon professional. Keep in mind that quotes over the phone can vary upon installation and the best way to determine the cost of the system is to have an in-home inspection. Pro Radon Mitigations offers in-home and phone estimates free of charge. During an estimate we are happy to answer any questions, discuss the layout of the system, cost, and available dates for installation. Call (815)287-9100.
